Ah yes, it's showing in Netflix and good news, since in our country has now netflix.. So you can watch it there. Anyway.. If you asked me, how I end up being a fan of Nina Simone these days? Blame David Lynch. Just kidding.. Anyway, after that one song, and my fave song of hers, which is Sinnerman, I was surprised that she sang I mean from end of 50's till the 70's especially with the civil rights movement.
Anyway, this documentary became an instant classic to me and very good treat to not only to her fans but audiophile or music fans alike. There was only one thing I hope they improved on, I hope they focused a bit more, how she done it, or how she was able to create music even the only training she had was doing classical music. Like how she created Sinnerman or Pirate Jenny?
But other than that, it's a fantastic documentary. 3 things I loved in this documentary.. First was the flow of the documentary. I mean, from where she born until the end, no mix or jumping scene except for the first scene. I love the transition they made for her story. As they unravel each important events in her life, there was always an interesting fact about her. I was surprised that she became an activist and one of the reasons, she left US was not due tax evasion, but she just gave up in the US after all her civil rights friends died one by one. Most surprising of all, no singing training for her. I mean, she just sang because she needed to earn working in a crummy club as she said. Wow, sheer talent and genius.
Another factor I loved this documentary, was the audio recordings or archival interviews done straight from her. At the course of this docu, with her answers in the interviews, you'll understand her as more of a person. Not the artist or singer but how she lived, thinks and yes, view life. Although it was proven that she lived as Nina Simone 24/7, she still shown as a normal person and worse, a very broken, depressed person. I love the parts which shown her letters and some footages on how she performs. Despite her strict rules and uncontrollable rhythm, her prescence in the stage indeed a worth to see and most importantly, to hear.
Lastly, I loved the interviews done to the people around her. Although I hoped they interviewed more artists, especially those she inspired.. It was very sad yet inspiring. Give credit to Lisa, Nina's only daughter of telling most of the meat of this documentary, even some parts of it she admit, she had bad feelings towards Nina but she still felt proud and love her mom. How about the parts of her ex-husband, her former band mates and some friends who not only close to her but also helped her especially for her second coming. I was very sad at the part where Nina exiled in France with no money and only working for a couple of hundred bucks in a crappy bar.. She was almost done but great thing, she was saved and helped her to cope her mental/psychological illness. That part was also interesting and shocking to me. Great thing, she rised up and you can see at the last part of the film, she was like a goddess that despite she is not that great anymore due to her age, just her name and presence, will flock the venue. The only person I can think who can do that today, Morrissey.. Damn if you also look how she perform with the piano, a living legend. That's what happens if you play the piano since 4 yrs old. Damn..
Well, this year, it was a lot of great music documentaries. Count in Kurt Cobain, then this one and yes, the one I should watch is Amy. All of them, troubled, depressed, fame consumed them type of story.. But Nina stands out not only she was able to handle the demons inside her, but also.. As she says, she feels free when she see a piano in front of her.
That title above, a very fitting title.. Especially if you are a new fan of hers.
All of them answered empathically in this documentary. I'll listen more of her songs perhaps.
By the way, I love Sinnerman as the ending song, even it was cut short. =)
I just hope she did not change her real name, Eunice. Not bad right?
If not all Jdramas are good, how about asadora? Even taiga drama in NHK had some bad eggs. For example Hana Moyu, na kahit sobrang galing ng cast, its just boring at sobrang bagal.
Ilan episodes na lang!!! After watching the 148 plus ones, eh salamat natapos na kagabi at nakatulog pa ko. How I discovered this one? Noong tinignan ko yun list ng asadora due to my curiousity sa wiki. Siyempre 90 plus yun at malamang halos lahat di ko kilala, some nagulat ako may mga sikat ngayon or di masyado sikat na may asadora. The lowest rating ever, is this, Welkame. At mukhang wala pa nakakatalo. hahaha
Paano naman kasi.. Ang daming flaws or not good about this asadora. Factors that I can made the ratings low and I was surprised na asadora siya. I survived finishing the 150 episodes of it, great thing, 15 mins lang siya. hehe
First of all, anak ng tinapa.. Why the story was not really interesting? I mean, nagsimula siya na takot yun batang Nami sa "kame", turtle in japanese, tapos nainspire magsulat kasi nakita niya yun editor in chief then yun na start ng story. Pero may mga moments na dramatic or talagang malas si Nami, pero di siya kung baga, serious enough para icheer or yes.. Root for. Grabe, sumakit ulo, parang yun ibang parts ng story parang kulang sa drama, or even fun. Kahit RAW yun napanood ko, eh bakit yun Teppan, natuwa ako. hehehe Raw talaga yun almost all episodes.
Second, siyempre kung di masaya or interesting yun kwento, bland yun most of the episodes, kasi naman, wala naman nangyayari milestone sa buhay niya. May ibang important events pero di naman important, for example, yun friend ni Nami na nanganganak na.. Aba parang 2 weeks din yun ha. Umay. hehe Marami pa yun. Lalo na sa mga bandang gitna ng story. Grabe, kung pwede lang fast forward. hehe
Third, setting is nice pero yun setting ng ibang place, parang ang compact. Kung baga, yun bahay ni Nami, lagi napupuntahan ng family niya at yun resto na weird yun set up.. Parang naisip ko, bakit pa lumipat si Nami kung most of the episodes eh from office to their own house/inn eh nakakapunta siya. hehe Basta naisip ko, well kung malayo talaga di ba, pero sana may time na talagang alone si Nami like other asadoras, kaso bihira lang yun.
Fourth, yes, ang bagal ng pace. I mean, most of the episodes, I did not focus on it kasi kahit ma miss mo yun dialogue, eh parang wala naman namiss. hehehe Nag pick up lang siya, last 5 weeks of the asadora. Poor thing. I was also expecting na sobrang marami magbago pero wala in the end, simple lang yun ending. I think to blame for these poor factors, eh yun writer and director. Geez.. Di man lang naging interesting yun story or even dramatic.
Siyempre, not all fails sa asadora na ito, some things helped kaya natapos ko ito. Una sa lahat, eh yun cast kahit ganun yun story, ok yun cast. Maraming characters dito na ok lang. Other than Nami, yun fave ko supporting characters eh yun family niya, yun husband niya saka yun ex president ng magazine na pinagtrabaho niya. Dalawa pala sila. hehe Lalo na yun italian na nakacast dun, galing maghapon. hehe Nakakatawa yun isang week na nagsuot ng mascot si Nami para mapromote yun Hotshin, grabe, naging comedy yun week na yun. hehe Yun effort nandun, lalo na yun father ni Nami. Yun artistang yun, serious sa ibang jdrama, pero dito, laid back na tatay. Ayos siya. hehe
Second, ok yun vibe ng story. Kahit mabagal at boring, fun siya at some moments. Dahil nga wala masyadong serious events, fun yun mga ibang episodes at interesting din like yun setting nila sa beach saka yun ano ano pinaggagawa ng family ni Nami and yun hotshin magazine. Puro inom at kain lang ginagawa. hehe At siyempre work din. Saka kahit papano yun love team ni Nami and yun naging asawa niya, may fun moments, lalo na yun first time nagkita sila after maghiwalay sila nung bata pa. Oh, Third reason I like this one, yun intro song niya, one of the best. Hirap nga hanapin sa net. Bad trip. hahaha Cool and light lang yun kanta, kakaadik.
Lastly, ang primary reason kung bakit ako nagtagal dito.. Kurashina Kana!!!!! I have no idea about her, pero nung nakita ko yun ibang jdrama na kasama siya.. I was curious, pag tinitigan mo matagal, maganda siya. Well, checked on google, ayun na. hahahaha Naadik na, kaya kahit panget yun jdrama, I need to check her out. Miss Swimsuit 2006 right? Hmmmmmm hehe. At lalo ako nagpursige panoorin at pagtyagaan eh may gravure vids pala siya bago mag Welkame, after those 2 videos.. I don't care watching the crappy show basta makita siya. hehe Bad trip sa asadora na ito, balot siya and her hairstyles for 148 episodes were not nice. Pinapanget siya kung baga. Bad trip talaga. Tiyaga na lang!!! hehe Not even one episode na pinakita yun curves niya. Naman. hehe
Well, ok naman siya actress and sa welkame, siya naman nagdala although blame the production crew, sulit to as jdrama or comedy jdrama siguro pero as asadora, sayang lang talent niya. Pero pag ngiti niya or any reaction in her face.. Sulit na sulit. hahaha I can't believe na NHK made some gravure models or great looking actresses na mag asadora. It's a risk pero most of them did not do well, like Eikura Nana's Hitomi or Natsuna's Jun to Ai na mukhang ok naman. Unfortunately, the lowest rating, goes to Kurashina Kana. Malas naman niya. Darn..
Anyway, hmmmm worth watching again? I'll just save it na lang for Kana. hehe Yun pre show episode na lang panoorin ko ulit. hahahaha

Kahit maganda yun platforms niya, di ko alam kung magagawa niya with her weak will. She has strong presence and good personality pero sa dami at di matapos na problema, eh di siya kailangan natin. Siguro si Chiz, maniniwala ako at may prinsipyo, baka nga panay tanong niya siguro kay Chiz pag nanalo. hahaha Di ko alam, basta tama sabi nila, hilaw pa siya.. Kala ko di na ko makakasulat ngayon kasi sa dami ko ginawa kahapon at yes, sarap na nakaleave. Pero it won't last.. Bwisit. hahaha
Ah, ano pa ba.. Naku, eto na, kailangan ko na ng back up at more TB. 50 gb na lang natitira sa HDD ko. Anak ng tinapa, ganun na kalaki yun collection ko. hahahaha Diyos miyo!!!!! I never thought na lalaki pala yun collection ko ng ganito. I never thought of this library to be huge despite, pinipili ko na ha. Next month, I'll focus na din sa wordpress site ko since lahat na dapat ko gawin around me eh finished. Time to focus more on the productive things for me.
Ang hirap pala ng 4x11 pero mabuti na lang umaga. hahahaha Naalala ko talaga yun ePLDT days ko, 4x11 na from 1am-12pm, parang araw araw, katapusan mo na. hahaha Dito, hindi naman, mahirap ang Aussie pag after work hours, mahirap yun mga issue nila. Bad trip.. Anyway, mabuti naman split off. Naisip ko sana pwedeng ganito sa normal na company, compressed workweek para maraming off at yes, less hassle going to work. Kaso di naman siya applicable sa lahat ng industries unless you have a very big number of workforce right?

I just tested yun xiaomi Iron Piston in ears at suprisingly, great. I mean, for that small amount, grabe yun detail ng in ear na yun saka tunog pang westone na mura kung baga or klipsch. Kahit medyo weird yun design! hehe
Almost 2 months after na ko nakapagtest or nakagamit ng inear na matagal. Yes, like drinking booze, putting in ear plugs is my next thing to reduce or worse, eliminate. Sabi kasi ni ENT doc eh.. Well, as you know I'm now developing vertigo at worse, eh sobrang hilo ako, lalo na yun month na November. Surprisingly, di ako umabsent at tuloy pa din ako pumasok. After some cool audio test and exam, it was found na kahit ok naman hearing ko, may signs of degrade na. Saka yun na, one of the sad news I heard, I need to minimize or stop using in ears na.
Darn, pero tuloy ang calls. hahaha Kala ko yun na, pero in ear lang ang bawal. Pero sa calls eh, ok lang daw basta after shift, or before shift, no more in ear headset. After 2 months, I felt light, saka di na ko sinasabon nina ate or Mom na kung ano daw nakasaksak sa tenga ko. Wala na ganun. Less pressure from them. hahaha Saka yun hilo, with the help of vitamins saka iwas inear, di na ko nahihilo. Nahihilo lang ko siguro sa work. hahaha Other than that, eh ok lang naman ako.
But I'm sad about it, I'm missing my play list na nga eh. Gaya nung natest ko yun plugs, check ko agad yun Joy Division/New Order/Smiths playlist ko kung yun depth ng bass and other parts are right at yun kanta ay clear. Not bad... hehe Saka yun mga ibang kanta namiss ko from Amy Winehouse, saka yun rock playlist ko and worship songs and of course, Nippon desu..
It's a missing feeling but it's not a loss. Kahit wala nakasounds sa tenga ko, I kinda appreciate the natural sounds outside.. Even yun mga sounds ng mga tsuper/driver.. Or the human sounds.. Kahit yun trapik sounds na nakakabad trip pero nandyan na yan. hahaha It is less music, but I have the same life. I'm focused on reading na lang or kung may pinapakinggan ako, use speakers than in ear. PInamigay ko na nga kay gerro yun natitirang in ear ko dati, kaso pasira na yun. 2 years of usage was not bad. hahaha
Well, I missed yun time na pag naka in ear kasi ako, parang at peace ako and the same time, being enclosed in my own environment. Listening to songs that brighthens my mood or improves it. May ibang songs na nagpapataas ng bad trip ng araw ko.. Hahaha Or chill out kung baga mayrun din. Kahit worse day na ang nangyari sa kin, I have a playlist na helps me to forget them. hahaha
Anyway, sa ngayon, ayun nakatengga lang yun headset at mukhang tatagal pa to kasi di ko naman masyado magagamit due to my condition. Akalain mo yun flare 3, napaganda niya ng sounds, hindi tunog lata at di pa todo yun volume. Galing naman ng headset na to. Despite doc's directions, susundin ko most of the time..
But some times, I just need my inner silence. Especially, a great thing is coming. Naks...

Hay, this past holiday season, I was lucky to taste these 2 great tonkatsu restos. I got it right this time how to eat them. Tignan na lang sa baba. hehe
Ginza Bairin, located siya sa Trinoma and as I'm curious at going deeper sa japanese foods, I tried it out na. Sabagay, habang wala pang tao. hahaha Mahirap na pag jampacked. Anyway, I read the reviews at nagisip ako bigla parang gusto ko kumain dun ha. As usual, alone and just checking at first, pasok na agad ako.. Check their menu at etong servant eh todo explain ano meron. hahaha I chose yun basic tonkatsu set nila, parang 450 plus. Tapos, appetizer na potato salad. Then, waited of course at while waiting, ambiance is kinda light. Not the usual japanese resto na dark colors pero light setting. Eto light paint tapos light din ang setting.
I checked the menu, they really focus sa katsu and furai set at some desserts or snack like onomiyaki na sana matikman ko in the future. hehe After some 15 minutes, dumating na yun set. Ah, I forgot, yun salad muna na nakakagulat! Chilled yun bowl! Grabe, yun ata nagpasarap sa potato salad. haha Tama lang yun dami kahit mukhang kaunti. Set came at ayun na, presentation is great. I mean, authentic japanese tonkatsu set. May gulay, fruits, tapos the pickle.. Ah.. Heaven. hahaha Yabu's set good looking pero not complete unlike this one. Speaking of the pickles, ang tamis at ang sarap! I mean, sa sobrang sarap, umorder pa ko isa. hahaha Unli naman eh. Mixing up the sauce was a bit complicated, kasi may asin tapos yun beans for the tonkatsu sauce.. Then the usual shredded lettuce. Rice, yummy one na din at ang fruits na sobrang sulit. Simple pero unli. hahaha
Of course, the tonkatsu itself, eh I can say it was fried great but I can say yabu's tonkatsu is better kasi tumutuyo sa dila eh. hehe Pero it doesn't mean, di siya masarap. Mas masarap pag nasawsaw na siya sa halo mo sauce, grabe, kahit wala nang kanin. hahaha Sulit!!! I don't like wasabi, pero dahil sa set na yun, no choice kung hindi ihalo siya sa sauce and that weird salt. hahaha Para macontrol yun anghang. Grabe, narealize ko na dalawang kanin lang at less letuce para maenjoy mo yun set. Dito ko lang natutunan yun. Kaya dapat sa susunod, less rice and lettuce, enjoy the rest! At siyempre yun pickles. hahaha I can say, sobrang busog ako, at nasarapan. No trace of umay unlike sa other tonkatsu restos na medyo naumay ako. At eto naubos ko yun set. No take outs. I ended up not eating until next day, dinner. hehe
Tonkatsuya, kinda challenging but yes, worth the very long walk. Nung tumitingin ako at naririnig ko na tong resto na to eh in Makati. Nagkataon na inaayos ko yun HDMF ko, eh I thought, puntahan ko na ito. From the HDMF office sa buendia, nilakad ko papuntang st. paul road. Anak ng tinapa, thanks google maps ha. hahaha Salamat sa pagtanong sa guard at the yellow boys eh nakarating ako. Sa susunod, dalawang jeep lang pala papunta dun. haha May silbi pala yun PRC na jeep.
Anyway, tama lang yun paglalakad ko para gutumin ako na todo! Eto talaga, di mo akakalain, yun lugar na pwesto niya may authentic japanese resto. Simple menu lang siya, more focused sa fry at tonkatsu. However, dapat curry pipiliin ko, kaso walang set. Pinili ko yun tonkatsu set na may grated radish. Daikon! hahaha Weird yun pinili ko at di ko ineexpect kung ano lasa at I want to know bakit yun daikon kasama sa japanese cuisine. Nakakatuwa ang place na to kasi it's not only set up japanese like, sliding doors saka very tight yet effective space, yun mga babasahin, talagang from japan.. Sarap dumekwat ng Golgo 13 at nakalimutan ko yun isang manga, di ko kasi trip. Pero yun Golgo 13, sarap sumiple. Saka yun magazines na galing japan! Kahit di mukhang mahal yun place, mukhang sarap tumambay at magbasa. Lalo na yun mga manga!
Pero, nung mababasa sana ako at nagbabasa ng menu, dumating na yun set! Ang bilis! hahaha Ok the set has tonkatsu, yun cabbage, miso soup saka yun daikon na sauce. Hiwalay pala. Grabe, inuna ko yun wasabi, mali ako! Sumakit yun ilong ko. hahaha Pero nung tinikman ko yun soup, cabbage and the sauce.. Grabe pantapat sa mga mahal na resto. hahaha Yun daikon sauce, grabe, bagay sa tonkatsu saka kanin! Sarap talaga.. Yun tonkatsu, pwede pantapat sa mga mahal na resto, kahit di masyado malaki, pero malaman.
Ang nakakatuwa dito, all for 300 pesos! May extra rice na! Yun nilakad ko na napakalayo, biglang sulit na at di na ko nagutom until the next day! Grabe, kung ako yun at malapit, once a week ako kakain dun! Hay, sarap balikan. hehe Saka yun simple atmosphere and manga na pwede basahin, malaking points talaga.
Anyway... Honestly, parang walang lamang sa dalawa. Ginza Bairin, sulit yun 500 plus pesos with service charge dahil sa set with that sweet pickles and very patient staff. Yun sa Tonkatsuya, kahit 300 lang, parang mas sulit pa to kaysa dun sa kinain ko sa may trinoma na napakamahal na 600 na get yourself salad with tonkatsu set. hehe Saka yun atmosphere parang usual japanese resto na fast food. Grabe...
That's why, it's a draw! hahaha Hmmmm, sorry Yabu, 3rd place. hehe Not bad, 3rd place out of 4 tonkatsu restos I ate no!
2nd place pala kasi dalawa ang first place. Grabe, 300 bucks.. Sobrang sulit! Yun Ginza bairin, I'll go back and try their other sets, and that pickles!

The last part for my home turf. For me, this is the best work hub for now at QC. It's not only the first technohub set up in QC, but also, still the best place to work despite some difficulties in this place. Eastwood!
How to get here, from our house, walk first from our house to E.Rod then ride a cubao yale jeep, 11 pesos then sa yale, look for the jeep that is going to Rosario, or light homes, then that's it.. 10 pesos more and you are now at Eastwood. You can get there less than an hour if there is no traffic.. But for these days, I don't think so. That will be explained later.
IBM - located at the middle at the right side, aligned with Citi tower. I think this is the first IBM site in the country and grown what is now. Ah, they have two offices, one at the middle then at the 1600 building. Same building with Dell. Well, if you checked my previous posts, you know how they works.
SITEL - Located at the cybermall in Eastwood, I forgot which they sits, but I remembered they are kinda high in that building. Very tight office they have. I mean they don't have a large space compared to the other centers. As I mentioned in my previous posts, they have a good medical insurance. However, yes, I remembered applied for this center, after waiting for almost 2 hours of my final interview, it did not happen and yes, great thing it did not happen. hehe
Concentrix - Yes, on how they became big, started in this first site they have. It houses of course, Dish network and I don't think they have or I heard more accounts they have in this site. They give big, I mean way bigger that we received before in ePLDT for dish but, yes, I don't think that will compensate the stress you'll get in a Dish Network account. Never. hahaha
