District 9

When I watched the interview last night to QT about the best movies of this year, he didn't include this. He chose observe and report?!

When I am planning to invite a friend to watch this movie, hmmmm she declined my invitation. Good job, I don't like harry potter. hehehe

Good thing I watched this movie this week.

Ah, some movie trailers are really good, like this one. When I watched the trailer, I was surprised that it's a documentary style and it's about aliens residing in South Africa. Great job, sweet one indeed and I promised, I will watch this movie.

I did watch it and oh boy. hehe

The Gist: Twenty years ago a big alien spaceship landed in Johannesburg, South Africa without warning and of course, humans checked it out and Aliens are kinda in poor state. They are somewhat harmless, so they stayed in South Africa. In District 9 as South Africa built for them. Then, twenty years later, since as society are getting fed up of taking care of these aliens, especially like government spending in that area, they want it out of the country or somewhere far from them. So, the government bids for a corporation and MNU, got the bid to get the aliens relocated.

MNU or whatever corporation it is, it's not UN ok. hehe So, assigned a team to inform the aliens that they will be relocated in a more safer place. The leader of the team, Wikus is assigned to that objective. Unfortunately, as he doing some investigation, well, he picked some item and made him transforming into a prawn (another call for those aliens because they looked like one). He was detained by MNU and the real objective of the mission is to find a way on how to use the alien's weapons. Which seems to be very powerful. Unfortunately, Wikus because of his condition was able to use the weapons and MNU wants him as a example of the experiment.

As he uncovers the secret plan of his company, especially his father in law who is the CEO or the boss of the corporation, he escapes the facility and get back to the slums of District 9 at least find a way on how he will be back to human. He found a friendly alien, however there is a deal that if he return the canister he stole from the alien, he will be back to human.

They returned in the base, kill some soldiers, got the canister, and return to district 9. But the things got worse when the Alien told Wikus that he can be healed after 3 years. Well, the dude got angry, used the small alien ship to go at the mothership thinking of doing the operation by himself. But the ship was gunned down, even the Alien was taken into custody by MNU asking what is their plan. Well, Wikus was saved by the Nigerian gang still asking of getting his alien hand, because the boss wants to be an alien. The boss has all the alien weapons, due to payment by the aliens residing in district 9 for food or whatever they need. Usual corrupt gang.

So, as the dude escapes from the gang, luckily, he got the alien's robot suit. Kills all the soldiers and let the friendly alien escapes and back to the mothership. Wikus got hurt but the alien got away. Wikus, became an alien for good. For now.

The Boos: Dude, I don't know the actors in this film, even it's great, but no star power. Small flaw. The accent as well, way different than british. It's not for all audiences as well, body parts splatting anywhere. Especially the battle scenes, it's really like the real thing. hehe However, all of them didn't really affect the film at all. Just bits of flaws.

The Goods: Oh boy, it's like watching ET in rated R version dude. hehe The pace is really good, fast pace and pure action. It's like a first person shooter video game. They should do Halo. The actors as well, even they are no really star or known actor there, they've done their parts good. I thought I am watching a documentary. The effects? Damn, great effects especially the battle scenes, the alien weapons, the props. hehe Yuck. I mean especially the lab scenes, scary indeed and how the dude's hands transform into alien hands. Yikes.

I love the scene when the dude got the super weapon, damn, the production team of Peter Jackson has the right to do anime robots. One example, when I saw that robot scene, they can do Madox 01. Or Macross. Or Gundam. The dude is like a child getting his first toy, got wild. hehe Killing each soldier.

Not only that, like I said, it's a documentary type, so the emotions of the people are kinda true. hehe There were scenes that are emotional, like Wikus calling his wife, and the torture scene. And the most touching scene is the end. It means the dude still think as a human. How sweet. hehe

The Verdict: Watch it, get in the DVD, collect it. Damn great. I can say, QT is dumb not to include this in the best films of the year. At least. I still believe it's a good date movie. hehe But nah, I know girls have a different taste. However, this film is really good, it even defeated cloverfield. hehe Or how about star trek, nah, I won't put a word about that because I'll just watch star trek later and see. But District 9 is too good to pass. Interesting and provocative and remind you, this is not really a big budget film. Like Transformers. hehe

Or even GI Joe. Oh poor ones.

Simply way better.

By the Alien should return to earth for his promise even after 3 years. I hope so. Poor Wikus.
