Ang Nawawala

When I read that Marie Jamora ay gagawa ng flick, which is not surprised because she is a music vid director and the same time prof pa sa ADMU for film ata.. Aba I knew, yun ang papanoorin ko sa Cinemalaya. I even said that kay Ivan nung dapat magkikita kami but alas! He was late, and I went home.. But I never lost hope.

Checked the sked at mayroon sa Trinoma, so I rushed there at some visit sa Eastwood at nakahabol ako. Pagpasok ko sa cinema, wow.. A lot of patrons I suppose.. It's a mixture of students, hmmm even old patrons at may masa din. Katabi ko sa left eh San Beda stud, at my right was a kinda giggling couple.. Dude was simple dude.. Dudette was well, may pagkamaarte. hehe

All of us 3 became focused when the film started. What a flick I can say.. Sana maraming flicks na ganito na dating pinoy, like Rakenrol which until now, di ko pa napapanood.. I can't even see that sa Astro or Odyssey, or even in my ehem other source.. Puro zombadings mayron. hehe

Marie I don't know kung drummer pa din siya ng Boldstar. Lately ko lang nalaman na pati Blast Ople eh drummer siya. She has good vocals, not bad and good drummer as well. I do still have yun CD ng boldstar na nakalagay sa DVD lalagyan.. I knew that her film will have a great OST, which it's not only fit for the film, but also exceeded my expectations! Parang tama yun sounds niya sa culture ng film.. Kung baga parang high fidelity or empire records ang dating.. Pop culture flick with the right OST.

Story was quite complicated, a dude came from abroad, cannot speak anymore but was able to finish skul. Then, yeah he has an alter ego, yun kanyang dead twin brother na makulit. At that time, nakakasalita siya. Normal lang.

Then of course with the run arounds with his family, ayun medyo nabobore siya because of the tragedy they experienced decades ago until nakakalabas siya with his childhood bad mouthed friend. hehe Tapos, at one party, ayun he met one girl that is kinda attractive yet weird.. Gibson pala yun lead bida, ang twin brother niya ay si Jamie, the chick is Enid. Actually si Enid lang yun natatandaan ko sa film. =)

It's xmas time and everybody was preparing of sorts, pero itong Gibson eh parang nadedevelop na with Enid as he opens himself with her even not speaking. Of course, di mawawala yun episodes niya with his dead brother, tapos yun chaotic relationship niya with his family. Enid has also one major problem, can't even get over with her ex but it seems going to love Gibs..

Until yun na, after that fateful night of temporary smoking love and bliss.. It took weeks to really know kung ano ba talaga sila Gibs at Enid, then they met sa costume party and sorts.. Enid call it quits, she admit can't move on. Tapos etong Gibs ayun got hurt very much, that he got his help from his dead brother. Before Gibs left abroad, ayun mukhang ayos na sila ni Jamie at coming New Year's day, nagsasalita na si Gibs, it cuts out with saying his name to his depressed mom. The end!

Anyway, dun muna sa parts that I did not like sa film. Una ay sana, iba na lang deficiency ni Gibs di ba, like depressed or di ngumiti or iba na lang wag lang yun di siya nagsasalita. I know parang may sickness na ganun in reality pero di ba, at some parts, I hope na nagsasalita na lang siya. Sayang effort nila Dawn at Buboy, or kahit yun ibang cast.. Yun lang parang sayang din effort ni Dominic, I hope nagsasalita si Gibs. And yes, I just hope the love story nila Gibs at Enid, maganda yun ending. Parang nabad trip ako nung umiwas na si Enid kasi sure na balikan na lang niya yun ex niya. Although not showing sa film masyado, pero parang di naman sila bagay nung ex. Eh yun ex niya hayok naman sa current GF. hehe Parang yun, sayang yun chemistry kasi saka, parang nabad label si Enid sa story, not the actress.. But yun sayang naman para naman naging sobrang saya na ni Gibs after all those years of grief and silence.

Enough of bad parts.

Punta na sa mga ok.. Although as much I want to watch yun other entry like yun kay Juday na movie, or yun black and white with Pen Medina ata na flick.. Naubos pera ko. hehe Kaya there sayang di ko macompare ito from other entries.

I'll just say what are good things in this flick.

Yun editing ayos! Like those scenes na flashbacks tapos yun movement ng camera towards the actors. Not very close but not very far, kita yun expression. Mabuti yun kasi di naman to all film long comedic flick, talagang may drama around 80% of the film.. Ayus yun close sa session scenes.. High na high yun kambal. Grabe! hehe

Script and screenplay, galing! Except siyempre sa sinabi ko na bad.. Ayos naman yun pace saka yun main story no. Script wise, damn lalo na pag may music na astig na kasama, ayos eh.. Cool yun dialog, at nakakatawa din, lalo na yun dalawang extra characters dun. I'll tell you a bit later na. Basta, magegets mo yun sinasabi nila,parang barkada lang ang trip.. And for the family scenes, although naisip ko parang sobrang class ng family ni Gibs, pero nakakattract din siya sa masa kahit ganun usapan nung pamilya nila. Sa forbes park ata yun family ni Gibs. hehe

Film setting, places, sakto sa theme at music ng film. Saguijo, route 196 which ngayon ko lang nakita kung san siya.. hehe Tapos yun xmas setting panalo. Cubao X, ah yun cementery, airport! Galing yun opening sequence niya.. Yun bahay na din, galing.. Saka astig yun kwarto ni Gibs, very minimalist yet alternative ang dating at useful din ang kwarto. Alam na... hehe

Then, yes.. Actors din na masasabi kong swak sa story and yes the mood of the film. I'm surprised with Dawn Zulueta na kahit ganun role niya, nadeliver ng tama.. How about Buboy Garavillo, kung tama yun spelling ng last name niya.. hehe Galing niya sa ganun role no, Father figure.. How about yun youngest sister ni Gibs, promise is her name.. Pang mayaman! hahaha At yun bothersome na oldest sister ni Gibs, very annoying kahit sa huli. Pero magaling yun actress.. Tapos Mercedes Cabral in a short stint, hmmmm kahit yun bf niya sa movie, ganun lang din. Tama lang sila, not bad and not great.. Kainis yun ex ni Enid at yun GF niya, di mo alam kung nauto lang yun ex eh. hehehe

Hmmmm galing nung all the bands played sa film, makapunta nga sa mga ganun gig! Hmmmm some good cameos din, at siyempre.. Kudos to Marc Abaya, kakagulat, ang taba niya dun! hehe Pero mas nakakagulat yun papel niya, everytime papasok siya, patawa yun papel niya.. First scene with him, galing, kakatawa! hehe Saka yun nasa simbahan, kala ko matindi ang taste.. Yun nga matindi taste, sa matanda! hahaha

Yun best friend niyang si Teddy, sarap tabasin ang dila sa kakamura. hehe Pero cool saka yun dialogue sa kanya, patawa talaga, lalo na yun mga pick up line niya.. Grabe, adik lang ang loko. Jamie played by real life twin brother of Dominic, si Felix! Astig pre, rockstar eh saka mas malakas ata ang batak niya kaysa kay Gibs. Pero magaling yun pagkaportray niya as the dead twin, di naman halata lalo na sa mga dialogue for him.

Enid! Actress name is Annicka Dolonius.. Very european name. hehe Pero yun face niya typical pinay pero maputi naman! Grrghh. hehe What I like about her? Laid back at yun taste niya sa music, grabe, iba level ha.. How she portrayed the character parang ganun ata siya in real life, I don't know.. From music taste, dialogue at yun feeling na pinakita niya very genuine.. Except yun ginawa niya sa huli. Pero yun part na gusto ko was the costume party.. Sabi niya ang portray niya eh sa twin peaks.. Pag litaw niya, si Rachael ang dating niya from Blade Runner!!! Galing kamukha niya, from the hair, yun suot niya na jacket and dress, yun puti niya at yun pagyosi, sabi ko.. Ayun, kulang na lang si Detective Deckard. hehe Oh simply lovely siya and damn hot. =) I hope she'll get more roles. Impossible for not getting any.

Dominic as Gibs, kahit yeah I just don't like yun di nagsasalita na part.. Naportray naman niya di lang tama, tamang tama!!! Ah, from his dialogue na makulit.. Tapos yun actions niya, then cool ang dating niya, lalo na pagnanood ng concert.. The wind tunnel scene.. Hmmmm ang gusto ko yun dialogue niya lagi with his twin brother, galing nung acting niya dun, even that bathroom scene after that horrible breakup. Saka nakakatouch yun ending niya, galing! Kahit ganun tingin sa kanya ng mom niya, he never give up, he still loves his mom.. =) Those twins well, I hope they'll get their breaks seperately ha.. hehe

Director of course, I need to give credit to Marie, I hope she'll do not only this kind of movie, but other genre. I think she's good sa drama or thriller.. Pero to make all the parts work then samahan mo pa ng panalo na OST! Aba, ano pa hahanapin ko? Cool film! Parehas sila ni Quark to really vigorate the alternative music scene dito sa pinas, iba lang approach nila on how to show it.

OST.. Siyempre, eto yun pinakagusto ko sa film.. From the gallery na sound track dun, tapos yun mga nilalaro nung mga banda.. The musical score, modern yet just fit sa mood ng film, talagang indie at alternative! At yun pinakamatindi, eh yun kanta play dun sa scene with the first kiss.. Old school groovy 70's hot dance track na ngayon hinahanap ko na sa google. hehe Apo Hiking Society - Ano Ang Ibig Mong Sabihin pala ang title. Parang di sila yun kumanta, nagulat ako. hehe Iba yun dating eh.

Well, I just love the film and I'm looking forward plus Rakenrol na sana mahanap ko na ng copy. Damn, it's so rock musical induced films, a better medium to show how fun and cool pinoy rock in these days. At siyempre, di naman mawawala yun good story line, love story plus building ruined relationships..

I hope we have more films like these.. Especially for the hip rock youth here. Kahit yun mga malapit na matapos ang youth! hehe

Well, I'm thinking to go sa afterparty ng film na to, damn baka malate na naman ako sa shift next day pero parang naisip ko.. Baka mas maigi sa office na ko matulog! hahahaha

Not sure yet, wala kasi ako kasama. =(
